Located just four miles south from the famed Maroon Bells, the most photographed mountains in the United States, this campground is considered as the prime place to camp in Aspen. Its backdrop of towering peaks and thick stands of aspen is staggering. And better yet, the campsite offers immediate access to hiking, horseback riding and fishing. The campground only offers six sites so it is best to make advance reservations. Sites cost $12 and are limited to five nights maximum. Trailers and RVs are not permitted.
Follow Highway 82 west out of town for one mile. Turn left on Maroon Creek Road and follow it for just over five miles. The well-marked campground will be on your left.
Opens: May 21 Closes: September 30
